Casey Luther

Founding Potter, Instructor

Hello! Casey here - I was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio and am a graduate of Wittenberg University. I found pottery while at Witt and fell in love with it. I was immediately enchanted with the process of taking raw clay, shaping it into whatever I wanted (usually something useful) and, after a couple firings, being left with a piece that will last forever and add color and craftsmanship to the life of whomever holds it. Leaving Wittenberg, I knew that I wanted to share my work and passion for pottery.

I created Fireside Pottery in 2021 first as a way to start sharing my work and trying to make a life of it. Very early on I realized that while I loved sharing my work, I enjoyed sharing the practice and creating community in my pottery even more. Its my love of teaching and community that continues to drive the studio in its student focused direction.

Emily Crow

Studio Member, Springfield Instructor

I started working with clay because I needed something I was commited to beyond my work as an Uban Planner for the City of Dayton. Pottery gave me a chance to slow down, tap into a different mindset and focus on making something from earth that I had always admired and collected in my travels. I quickly found that it wasn't just relaxing—it was meditative, rewarding, and a great way to connect with other people who enjoy creating.

I love functional pottery that is also decorative—pieces that are beautiful to look at but are meant to be used every day. I'm always experimenting with new decorative techniques, clays and glazes, and I'm still learning every time I step into the studio.

Teaching gives me the opportunity to share what I enjoy most about ceramics. Whether you're completely new to clay or have been making pottery for years, I hope you'll find your time with me at Fireside welcoming, a place to learn, experiment, and enjoy the process. For me, the best part isn't making a perfect pot—it's taking a break from the decisions of everyday life, creating something meaningful, and sharing that experience with others.
